Default Normal page view?

The answer is probably so obvious but ... halfway through typing a letter, the page shrunk before my very eyes. All settings seem normal, but the text is too small to read. How do I get normal view back?

Have you looked at the Zoom control on the Standard toolbar?

If it's not the zoom, see if you have inserted a comment or enabled Track Changes, in which case Word may reserve space for so-called balloons on the right-hand side of the page (shrinking the page from the right and from below).
