ch and line as measurement units
Hello, everyone.
I received a document today where someone set their indentations and spaces using ch and line. Does anyone know what these units are exactly and in what situations you might want to use them? I played with them for a while but can't figure out how they are calculated. I attached a screenshot for illustrative purposes. Thanks! Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 01-09-2020 at 09:36 AM. These measurements occur in documents created in an Asian language environment. To change the measurements in a dialog box, such as the Paragraph dialog box in this case, you will have to type in inches or centimeters (or whatever you prefer) for indentation and points for the Spacing Before/After.
If you are also seeing incorrect measurements on the ruler, take a look at http://www.gmayor.com/character_units.htm.

Using Character as a measurement unit implies that its physical size would vary according to the size of the character is it being compared with.
It appears that 1 ch equals 11 points on the document I am looking at. This could be a fixed conversion or it may be related to my default font size or the size of Normal in this particular document. Based on that conversion, 1.5 ch would equal 16.5 points which in turn becomes 0.5820833 centimeters
