Smile Protected document and adding an Object

Hi - I have a query that I wonder if anyone has the answer to. I have created a Word 2010 document as a form. I have added Protected View so that only the answers to the questions on the form can be completed by the person using it. I also need to add an excel spreadsheet which I have done as an Object within the Word document to open up the spreadsheet as an optional document to complete. However my problem is that as soon as I add the protected view the user is unable to open the excel document. The excel document is not in protected view (although it would be brilliant if I were able to do this too!). If the protected view is not added, the excel spreadsheet opens fine.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thank you.
