Default Measurement units in Word

I know that the computer likes to think of size in terms of pixels when it comes to displaying things on the screen.

However, Word, or any other Office application for that matter, does not use pixels at all. The available units of measurement are inches, millimeters, centimeters, points, and picas.

Does anyone know what is the logic behind Word's calculations for displaying these "real-world" measurements?

I tested points, inches, and millimeters, and it seems to work kind of decent with points, less so with inches, and very wrong with metric units.

I attached a screenshot, so you could see what I mean.

Word's metric units are plain useless, no precision at all.

What measurement units are best suited for more precise kind of work? Or are there any techniques to make Word more accurate?

Thanks,
Aston

Bottom line is that Word is not, has never been, and likely never will be, precise.

Word derives its display based on the installed printer driver, as well as the defined screen resolution. Different computers using the same printer - but with different drivers - can display differently.

Word is as word processor, and despite what Microsoft may attempt to fake, it is NOT a layout application.
