Default Creating unusual numbering in Word 2003 template

Dear all,

I am trying to create an unusual set of numbering in a template, which would work as follows:

Heading A

Heading B

Heading B1
Heading B2
Heading B3

Heading B(a)
Heading B(a)1
Heading B(a)2

Heading B(b)
Heading B(b)1
Heading B(b)2

Heading B(c)
Heading B(c)(i)
Heading B(c)(i)1
Heading B(c)(i)2
Heading B(c)(i)3

Heading B(c)(ii)
Heading B(c)(ii)1

I'm having trouble trying to get the last parts of headings to restart - i.e. B(c)1 should not continue from B(b)2.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Dear Ismcal...

I attach your document with the styles that you appear to have asked for. All second level headings are on same indent or perhaps you want all headings off the margin - wasn't sure.

Kind regards

Wow thank you so much for this!! It works perfectly.

I managed to add an extra layer of headings, and have been trying to add:

A1.1 underneath A1 but it's playing havoc with the formatting!

If you have a moment, could you explain how to do this or add it to the document I've uploaded?

Much much appreciated.

Hi Ismcal...

Attached is a do over in your document with Alt1 1-9 assigned to Heading 1-9 as before.
You don't say how your numbering is played out - do you want body text to follow each heading or as I have done in Heading 2 - Heading 3 follows.

Kind regards

Hi, this is perfect - you're a star!
And I've learned a lot from this, understanding how to make lists that are pretty much locked... this will save loads of time down the line.
Thanks very much for your help on this!

Just round the edges, any time I see a numbering scheme this complex/fiddly I wonder how it's actually going to help the reader …
