Default Location of file when you hit "save"

I downloaded a form from an email on Thursday night, enabled the form to type on it, and then completed it and hit "save" under the file tab. Where is it? I can't find it now.

It may be gone. Period. This is one of the primary causes of document loss. The correct practice is to save the file to your hard drive, in a location where you can find it, and then open it from Word, not open, edit, and save.

If it exists is in a temporary files location for Windows. This location is not set within Word. What happens when you open Word and look in your recent files there?

Thanks for your reply and I guess that I learned the hard way. Word does show some recent files but the one I need is not among them.

Attachments to emails get put into a Temp folder by default. If, when you want to save you click Save As you'll see where it would be saved if you did not change the destination, which you should then change so that you can find it again. If you look for the path of the Temp file you might be able to open it and see all the files that you thought you had lost.
