The problem was that a previous author had inserted a 'Page-Break to next Odd page' at the start of the document.

After selecting the 'show hidden characters' option, it showed not only the CarriageReturns,Tabs, but also the different types of inserted page-breaks.

At least in that display mode one can remove those and problem was solved.

As often: a simple problem once you understand what is happening.
