Thumbs down Disappearing word text

I recently scanned a printed document which automatically converts it to an MS word document complete with all the original tabs, spacing and formatting.



It all looks lovely at first glance but when i try to edit some of the text, chunks of text, sometimes big sometimes small, randomly pop in and out of existence on the screen. Can anyone help as its extremely frustrating.

I am using a new intel mac with Word for mac 2011 but the original document was scanned using ABBY Fine reader for scansnap 4.1 on a windows PC running Windows 7.

Can anyone please advise?
