Creating a sorting method.
I have a document made up of a large number of appendices with headings that are also shown in a column to the left of the document headed, “Navigation”.
These headings and therefore the individual appendices are not in alphabetical order and I would like to remedy that for easier searching when I create an index if what I’m writing ever gets to print. At the moment I am creating a table with two columns the left hand one of which I place the heading and the right hand one where I place the appropriate appendices’. I then select the sort icon which shows a capital A over a capital Z. Is there a less labour intensive way to do this? |

Set up a multilevel list of headings, where you assign level 7/Heading 7 (for example) for your appendixes. See the "Example 1" section of the article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290953/en-us/ (How to number chapters, appendixes, and pages in documents that contain both chapter and appendix headings in Word).
