Control the size of space between heading number and heading text
It looks like you can set the same amount of space between numbers and headings no matter the size of the number, by choosing space rather than a tab stop in the Modify Multilevel list dialog box. But I find the amount of space Word uses is too small for my liking. I'd like to choose space rather than tab stop and at the same time control the size of that space if possible. How is this done?

The width of a space is determined by the font name and font size; there is nothing you can do to change it.
Using a tab stop and indentation, you should be able to specify the appropriate distance(s) for your list format. Take a look at http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/NumberAlignment2007.htm. For more on setting up numbering in Word, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...g20072010.html.
