Default Table of Contents - Wrap-around on long heading looks awful

I have an automated table of contents. A third-level heading is long, and has to wrap around. I would like the second line of the heading to be left indented same as the first line so that they line up crisply on the same left indent, but instead the second line left indents way to the left, lining up with the heading number left indent instead. Also, there's no dot leaders like all the other entries in the TOC, and the page number doesn't right indent to the right side of the page with the other page numbers. Instead, the page number follows the end of the heading by a few spaces. How to fix these problems?

Thanks

The formatting of TOC entries is controlled by the corresponding TOC style (TOC 1 corresponds to level 1 entries, TOC 2 to level 2, etc.).

A hanging indent and a right indent would probably do what you want. Using a hanging indent, you can have paragraph numbers line up nicely for each TOC entry.

And to make long entries easier to read, adding a right indent to the TOC styles will be helpful. That way, the page number displays at the tab stop to the right of the right indent, while the text wraps "earlier."

Thanks Stefan. For any of my TOC style levels the tab stop positions are not listed in the 'Tabs' dialog box. Why is that? For precision, I need to adjust the tab positions numerically rather than by dragging them with the cursor; therefore I need them to be listed numerically.

Thanks

This is because Word creates (or tries to create) the tab stops "dynamically." If you don't see any tab stops, just add them explicitly to each of the TOC styles.
