If you save as a template to the default location, then to use it you do the following:

Click the Office button (circular Office logo, top-left)
Click New
Choose 'My Templates' (left-hand menu)
You should now see your Template
Make sure the 'Document' radial is checked (bottom-right, above the 'OK' button)
Choose your template and click 'OK'
