How to apply a list style to multiple Word documents?
Hello. I have created a list style called ListBullets that has different levels of bullets and numbers and I'm very happy with it. Now, how do I save this ListBullets style so that I can access it from other Word documents? If I open another Word document, ListBullets doesn't appear in the styles. I want to be able to open another Word document, highlight some bulleted text in that document, and select "ListBullets" from a drop-down menu, and then that text will automatically be formatted with the ListBullets style. Then I can quickly save the document, close and move on to the next document. Is this possible? If not, what is the preferred way of working with multiple Word documents with similar styles? |

Take a look at a previous thread similar to what you are asking in the "Similar Threads" at the bottom of this thread. Or, look here:

The root of my problem is I need to convert about 2,000 WordPerfect documents to Word .docx documents, as our company is converting exclusively to Word. The good thing about the WordPerfect documents I have been assigned (about 250 of those 2,000) is that they all have the same general style, a style that I have tried my best to duplicate in Word and save in a template. I think the solution, then, is to open up each WordPerfect document in Word, save it as a .docx file. It will look unbelievably messy, but then I should be able to apply a VBA macro similar to Paul Edstein's AddStyles() macro that do in VBA code what my template style is. And I should call that macro for each of these 2,000 documents that will format each of the documents as best I can. Does that sound right?

It sounds like a method.
Be aware that converted documents should not be used as templates (or as the basis for new documents). They are very messy even if they look fine. The conversion process is inexact. See Word for Word Perfect Users. If I want to make a template from a converted (or scanned) document I save it as plain text and then format that text using Styles and then save it as a template. This is time-consuming but in the long run will save time and grief. |

You should also read How to control bullets in Word 2007 and Word 2010 before you start adding your style(s) to your new documents / templates.
