Default Editing Freeform Points/Layers In Draw Mode

Greetings,

I used to do quite a bit of drawing using Office 2010. Yeah, it's not Powerpoint or Photoshop but it was comfortable. Now I have a new computer which came with 'Word Starter' which I assume is a new version because the system doesn't work like it once did.

1. Editing Freeform Points.
I used to be able to draw simple shapes and add or edit points to refine outlines. Now, when I do so, I notice that my nice, hard, corners turn to curves and that the points themselves have two addition outriggers which I can turn to alter the extent of the curveature. Attempts to change back to ordinary meeting vertexes using 'straight/smooth/corner' point rules does nothing. I just want to be able to block out line segments as angular, not curved joins.

2. Problems getting shapes to layer.
Ordinarily, if you are drawing the tail on a jet, you first block in shapes for the background fuselage and then the flight control itself. But if you are using the flight control as a perspective orientation, you draw it first and then orient the fuselage relative to it by drawing them and pulling the tail through their overlay. Unfortunately, I have noticed that certain shapes will not rise up, whether told to do so from the ribbon or the right click menus. I am using a canvas and the shape in question is solid colored.

Are there any easy answers? Thank You- LEG

As I understand, Word Starter is a reduced version of Word 2010. It does not have all of the features of Word 2010 so, I would assume that you would have to upgrade your new computer to get those familiar features that you have been used to.

Thank you for your prompt reply sir. I am living on a fixed income so the 88 dollars for a home/student version of Office is a significant outlay for me.

As such, can you confirm that Microsoft has downgraded their demo version and that if I purchase a fully activated version, I will get the capabilities I need?

I frankly do not remember the ability to add curves to line segments from my previous system using the outriggers and I would like very much to understand what the straight/smooth/corner adjustments mean in terms of vertex behaviors so that I can be assured that I -will- get full control over the drawing modes, if I make the purchase.

Again, Thank You, for your time as wisdom.

KPl.

Sorry, no, I cannot confirm that. I was only implying that whatever capabilities you had on your previous computer using MS Word 2010 that was not available with Word Starter may be the result of lesser capabilities.

FWIW, I have never used the freeform drawing capabilities of Word. Instead, by profession, I use AutoCAD and MS Visio.

Sorry if I led you astray. Wish I could have helped.

JimP,
No problem. Thanks.
I thought I would add another note to my original findings in the hopes of bumping this back up to attention:
If you right click edit shape and then right click again on the line between the points, you then get a popup which includes the option to 'straighten segment'.
This returns the line behavior to that of the original Word Draw (hard corners between vertexes) but only until you next move or change the line.
At which point all the vertex points become vulnerable to 'curviness' again.
Also at issue is the fact that sometimes right clicking will in fact -add- a point rather than bringing up the segment choices.
This is incredibly poor functional design.
If there is anyone out there with Office 2003 or 2007, does your Word Draw function work this way?
If not, I think I may try and source an older copy of Office from someplace.
