Default Figure and Table Numbering Format Change

Hey everyone,

I've got a document that has been numbered using captions.

It's been initially numbered to include the chapters, so Figure 1-4 Table 13-6, for example.

However now we want to remove the chapter number and just have a list of sequential numbers, Figure 13 Table 3 so on.

Is there any way to do this without going through the entire document and changing them all?

Thanks in advance!

On the References tab, click Insert Caption. In the Caption dialog box, make sure that the correct caption is selected in the "Label" box. Click Numbering, and then deselect the "Include chapter number" option. Click OK. Word displays the Caption dialog box again. Repeat the above procedure for each additional affected caption.

Important: After you have made the above changes, if Word prompts you to save the Normal template, choose to do so.

Thanks for your reply.

I was more thinking if there is a quick way to do this. A bit like changing the format of a style, it will update the entire document.

I want to try to avoid having to go through every since reference separately.

Any ideas?

You only have to do this once, for each caption label that you want to change, not for each individual caption.
