Default Custom bullets not retaining settings

I have three custom styles using an en dash as a bullet. These styles change themselves unbidden. Sometimes the en dash disappears. More often, the setting in the Paragraph command changes from .25 indent to .5, and sometimes the tabs change from .5 to .75 (and the other two styles may change as well).

Is there a way to corrrect this? Is it a sign of corruption? The style is based on Normal. Should I change it to No Style? Any suggestions. I don't want to deliver unstable documents to ur customer.

I don't know why the bullet symbol disappears. It might be a sign of a corrupt font, or (as you suggested) document corruption. Have you tried copying content into a new, blank document and recreating the formatting?

As far as the indentation is concerned, note that you should always define indentation for numbered and bulleted styles as follows: Apply the style to text. Click the bullet symbol to select it. Right-click and choose Adjust List Indents from the context menu. Make the desired changes. This should update the style, but just in case you may want to right-click the paragraph and choose Styles | Update <style name> to Match Selection.

I did not know about Adjust List Indents. I've redone the Dash styles (and saved the document ast RTF, then opened and repaired). For now they seem to be holding. I did both the Adjust List Indents and Update to Match Selection. Thanks very much for the tip.

Since my company installed 2010, I have had numerous issues with corruption. I think I may have to routinely save as RTF and paste into fresh documents. It's beginning to remind me of pre-patch Word 97.

Thanks again for the help.

I haven't had seen any general issues with Word 2010. It is possible that the document is (slightly) corrupt, but I'd try fixing it rather than routinely saving to RTF. (Of course, you can keep backups in RTF and other formats, too.)
