Default Auto-populate from form fields

Using Word 2010, I need to auto-populate places in a form. When a user enters a value in a Rich Text Content Control or a Legacy Text Form Field, other places need to populate automatically with that same value.

I’ve been trying to accomplish this by bookmarking the content control and then cross referencing places that are to update from that value. I can’t get it to work even if I enforce protection for “filling in forms” and then allow the user to stop protection. Ideally, I want to password-protect for “filling in forms” and have the cross-references update without the user stopping protection. Any suggestions?
