how keep word document highlighted when switching focus to another application?
When doing research, I always have my word 2013 open on the left, and chrome on the right.
e.g. i want to keep track of certain words (by just dragging cursor across words, not using the highlight function), but once i switch focus to chrome, the highlight is gone (till i switch back). is it possible to tweak it such that the highlight is retained even though i switch focus? thanks! |

Hi
You could use the highlight function in Word to highlight the word(s) you are interested in and remove the highlights when you have finished? Tony |

as mentioned in the first post, i would not want to use the highlight function, because it would be a lot of work if i have to keep highlighting and undoing it every other line.

I've just checked this with 2010, Firefox and IE … in all combinations, the highlight in Word stays fixed even if I also click and highlight a word in the web browser. I'm not sure it has to be a Word question, irritating though it is.
Still … if we assume that in your case click'n'highlight isn't stable, you could consider using a character style that includes a background colour: assign a keyboard shortcut to the style, and use ctrl+space to clear it. That ought to be quicker than using the menu to apply and remove highlighting. You could do the same with something harmless such as bold or italic, if that's enough to stand out. |

Hi
Once you have finished what you need to do, you can search and replace ALL highlights in a Word document by simply using the search and replace function. Search for highlight and replace with nothing. Hope this helps. Good luck. Tony |
