![]() I want to compare the formatting of my word document with another model format. For example, I want to set the heading size, font size, line spacing, footnotes, etc. in a particular way in a model document. And then I want to compare it with my document. My document is really large, and hence it is cumbersome to check each and every line and detail. By comparing the documents, the part where the errors are there would just get highlighted, so that I can edit it. I've seen others do it, but I dont know how to set it up. Help? |

Hi
What you should be doing if you want people to use the same styles and formatting is to use a set template that contains all the correct styles and formatting. What you may have seen is "Document Compare". Which is a way of comparing two "Versions" of the same document in order to identify what has changed. This is not the same as checking styles and formatting. Hope this helps. Tony |

If both documents have been set up using the same set of named styles, then you can indeed import the definitions of these styles from one document/template to another. I seem to remember, though, that you can adjust the Compare settings to highlight formatting differences; don't know how to do this in 2007, but in 2010 – in case this helps point you in the right direction – it's Review tab > Compare > Compare two versions > More > Formatting.
