Problem opening Word 2000 files (with Win7, 64 bit)
The current problem with Word is that I can't open a Word doc by clicking on a document in a folder; it stalls by saying "There was a problem sending the command to the program." Then it opens Word but not the document I requested. Instead I have to open Word first and open the doc by choosing Open in Word. So docs can be opened from Word but not from Windows Explorer. FYI, I can open non-Word docs from Explorer w/out "Do you want to let the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes...?" or "There was a problem sending the command to the program." |

Hi
You may need to associate all Word 2000 documents with MS Word 2007 first of all in order to ensure you can open them from Explorer. Hope this helps. Tony |

Try re-registering Word: Exit the application if it is running. Hold the Windows logo key as you press R; in the Run dialog box, type winword /r and press Enter. After the configuration has completed, see if you can double-click Word document icons again. If it still doesn't work, try http://www.gmayor.com/document_not_found.htm.

Thanks OTPM! How do I do this?
Do you think the situation may pertain to Word running in compatability mode for Win XP (SP-3)? |

Thanks Stefan Blom! I tried your suggestion; it did configure but nothing changed. I tried some suggestions in the link you posted but did not find the bad 1% it mentions. Not sure what else to do, now.

One more note while I'm mulling this over: Is it strange that each time I open Word (or try to open a Word doc) I get the "Do you want to let the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes...?" message, although I'm not currently running Word as the administrator?
Thanks so much everyone. |

Hi
It shouldn't be a compatibility issue I dont think. Have a look at this link: http://word.tips.net/T000316_Cant_Op...n_Windows.html Good luck. Tony |

Thanks again for all suggestions. I've followed all the steps I can, so far, and none have worked yet. Another thing that seems weird is that every time I open Word (or try to open a Word doc) I get the message asking me if I want to "let the following program from unknown publisher to make changes to my computer," even though I'm not Running [it] as Admin. Could this be related?

Have you read through the rest of the article as well?
