Unhappy Compatibility/Protection issue

We are creating documents on a 2008 server using Word 2003. When we distribute these documents to different remote users/clients all the documents are protected and open in compatibility mode. They have a variety of word versions on Windows & iOS.

Is there anything I can do on my end (our server, our version of Word) to stop these users from having to stop protection on every doc just to edit them?
Thanks

What kind of protection are you applying? It seems you're applying some that ought not be applied.

As for compatability mode, that's essentially an advisory notice Word provides for people using Word 2007 & later when working with files created by Word 2003 & earlier. It's of no consequence unless they want to start using features not supported by the earlier format.

By default, on the recipient end, documents created elsewhere will be opened in protected mode (no editing) with the option to allow editing.

I know of no way the sender can turn this off; nor should there be a way. This is a low level of security. You could explain this in your transmittal email. They can read and print without leaving protected mode.

Thanks for the replies.
Apologies for the cross posting.
I wonder is there a way to give trusted permissions for a folder and its contents accross a network?
