Navigation Pane
Hi,
I'm trying to manipulate the Navigation Pane a lot more than I appear to be able to do. I have a large document with hundreds of headings and sub headings which of course appear in the Navigation Pane. My document has gotten a lot larger recently as I have brought in 15 other Word documents into this one, each as different chapters. What I want to do is remove many of the headings from the Navigation Pane so they no longer show up in the pane. If I delete the heading in the pane then it also deletes the textual contents - I just want the heading removed from the pane and not the content. Is there any way to achieve this? Ultimately, I will be exporting the file as a PDF and I can of course manipulate the Navigation Pane in Acrobat Pro without messing the content up without any problem. It would just be better for me to be able to do a lot of this in Word. I'm using Word 2010. Many thanks. |

From my understanding, the navigation pane, for a lack of better terms, acts like a mini TOC that is basically compiled throught the use of STYLES. So, in order to remove the navigation pane headings you would have to eliminate the styles OR, redefine the styles so that they would not appear in the TOC/Navigation Pane. Based on your comment ref the size of your document, this would not be advantageous or, would be very cumbersom/tedious.
Just my thoughts... |

That's how I see it. I think I shall just edit the navigation pane in Acrobat once it's exported as a PDF. |
