In the process of completing a document on pleading paper, I encounter an unwanted horizontal bold line across each page.

Try as I may, I cannot get rid of it. Indeed, while trying, another bold line often appears.

Help, please? How do I get rid of that unwanted line?

You papbably have some paragraph borders lurking somewhere. Select all of the potentially-affected range, then click on the border tool dropdown (Home tab, Paragraph panel) and choose 'no border'.
