Default All bullets jump to next page

Some of the bullet 'lists' in my document jump in their entirety to the next page, even though there's room for some or all of the list on the current page. This leaves a large blank area on the current page. How do I fix this?

Some background in case it's relevant:
I set up my multilevel list and attached my heading styles to the levels as per Shauna Kelly's article. Heading styles for levels 1-4 use numbers and heading styles for levels 5 - 6 use bullets. In other words, I enter bullets into my document through heading styles. I was advised to do this by an MS Office trainer. He advised me that Word has problems mixing a multilevel list with a bulleted list that is not part of the multilevel list.

Thanks

That suggests you might have changed their paragraph format by adding the 'page break before' property.

To avoid any problems mixing bullets with multi-level list numbering, use specific bullet Styles that you create instead of a bullet list. I've used Word this way for over a decade with no issues.

Also, since built-in heading styles are being used, the "Keep with next" setting, activated by default for some of the headings, may contribute to the issue.

Thanks for the tips guys. Such an easy fix too, I quickly found the dialog box that contains these checkboxes. Turns out the 'page break before' box was not checked and the 'Keep with next' setting was the culprit. I unchecked it and the bullets work fine.

Paul, to clarify, I wasn't using a bullet list, I insert bullets using heading styles that are part of my multilevel list (please see my post above). Am I doing it using specific bullet Styles the way you suggested? Want to make sure I understand your comment - your results of a decade with no issues sounds good to me!

My Bullet (and Indent) Styles are independent of Word's Heading & Outline numbering systems. I don't use bulleted headings. So I simply defined a series of paragraphs with the bullets & formats I needed, then assigned a Bullet# Style to each, where # is a number.
