Hi Jack,

Have you tried working with Word's Outline view (for which you need to use Word's Heading Styles)? Changing the 'show' level determines the depth of the heading levels you can use to expand/contract the displayed content.

An alternative approximation is to use Word's Heading Styles, plus a Table of Contents (via a TOC field) at the font of the document. Click on a heading entry in the TOC and you'll be taken to that part of the document.
