Default Field Format issue

Hello,
I have a "Text Form Field" in a document that I've created on the PC version of Word 2010. I have it formatted as a number with a format (###) ###-####, for telephone numbers. It works great on the PC version. When I opened the document on the Mac 2011 version of word, the field doesn't work properly. The numbers show up as a decimal with 2 places. When I look at the properties, it has the same format selected. What is causing this and how can I get around it? Thanks in advance.
Z

There is an issue with the retention of formfield formats in Word 2010, especially, for which the workaround is to save the document in the .doc format. Give that a try.

Have you tried creating the formfield with that format on the Mac (ie to test whether the Mac supports it)?

I have, and it doesn't work. Is there a way I can accomplish this in a manner that works across the board?

Since the issue is at the Mac end, you will need to find a format you're happy with that works there. Have you tried: (000) 000-0000?

That doesn't seem to work on the windows side. I'm trying to get one form that should work on both platforms for revision control simplicity. I ended up going with a macro on exit that formats the number.
