Automatic line extension is creating 2 lines
When I type 3 hyphens and hit enter I am getting 2 or 3 lines instead of just a single line. How can I get just a single line? Thanks, Jim

Are you sure it's not just a large inter-paragraph space? That is contolled by your paragraph format's before/after spacing.

I'm getting lines rather than just spaces. Could the inter-paragraph spacing cause this? Thanks,

OK, clicking the "no spacing" option box seems to have fixed it. Maybe the extra paragraph/line spacing was the problem. Funny that I hadn't noticed it before, though.

Clicking the ¶ symbol on the Ribbon's Home tab toggles Word's formatting display on/off. With it on, you should see only a single paragraph break (also denoted by ¶) between the paragraph where you inserted the '---' and the paragraph the cursor ends up in after pressing <Enter>. The gap between them is controlled by the paragraph before/after spacing.
