Default Did not save the right version

I was "helping" my wife with a stalling issue. The word doc she was editing was eating up 54% of the cpu. i saved it twice and closed it.

I killed the file from the task manager.

When i went to open it again, it had a pop up, asking me to use a newer saved version of the word doc file I had saved and just opened.

I looked at the date, i thought it was Saturday. But it had to be today's.

The version i have lost a days worth of work.

How can i get it back? The name is Fictitious....

I'm currently searching her c: for ~$ictitious

Hi nmn,

if you had Word's autosave function running, you'll only have lost whatever you'd edited after the last autosave (e.g if the autosave interval is 10 mins, that the most work you'll lose). Simply re-starting Word will be enough to initiate a recovery. Otherwise, you'll need to search through the *.tmp files on your system to find any containing your document. If you find some, simply changing their extensions to whatever file format you were using (e.g. doc, docx) should be enough for Word to recognize and open the file again.

PS: Please don't post duplicate threads.
