Exclamation Issues regarding Header and Footer dissapearing

I am having a strange time trying to keep my header and footer from dissapearing from my document after I save.

I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but every time I save a box comes up asking me "Do you Also Want to Save Changes to The Document Template" - "yes" or "no". I always click "no" because I don't want to change my original template. Regardless, the original template is fine. It looks fine in my document and then all of a sudden when I save at some point both header and footer dissapear and I have to create them again.

On a related note, I have a page break where I have made it so that the header on my first page does not appear on the following pages. Every so often the header just appears on all of the pages and not just the first page.

This is crazy, and becoming very time consuming.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The disappearing/extending headers suggest your document contains Section breaks and that, in your editing, you're deleting them.

the template message suggests you might be trying to edit the template, instead of a document based on it. Naturally, if you edit a template then close it without saving, the changes will be lost.

Can you actually delete a section break just by deleting too much of the body text? I have never used section breaks before and did not think it was that easy to delete them.

Regarding the "template" saving that message comes up every time I do anything. I just tested the document again but adding ONE word, and then selected "save" and the note regarding saving the template came up again. I did nothing to the template.

Section breaks sit in the body of the document and are quite easy to delete. If you have Word's formatting display turned on (clicking the ¶ symbol on the Ribbon's Home tab toggles it on/off), the appear as '=====' across the page, though sometimes, if they're at the end of a line, you might only see them if you switch to draft view.

As for the template message, what is the extension of the file you're opening, and how are you opening it?
