Default Can't Place Cursor to Insert Subdocument

Hi, All.

I'm having an issue with a master document in Word 2003. I've already got the master document set up, and everything works fine. My problem comes when I want to add in a new subdocument.

Everywhere I've looked says that you just insert the cursor where you want the subdocument to go, and insert it as normal. However, there's no space between my subdocuments for the cursor to go, so it either places the cursor at the end of one subdocument or the beginning of the next. Then, when I go to insert the new subdocument, it inserts it within the existing document, rather than between them.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi
Is there a paragraph mark at the end of each document (both Master and Sub documents)? If not then you wont be able to place your cursor there.
Hope this helps.
Tony

Thanks for the reply, though it was not what I'd hoped for.

I don't think I have what you're asking about. I've opened the master document, expanded all subdocuments, and looked in outline view with Show/Hide all Characters switched on. All I see is the last word in one document, the section break, then the heading of the next.

Assuming that I can't add a document in this way, is there another way to add it in there? Or can I add it in anywhere, and have Word automatically place it alphabetically anyway?

Otherwise, I'll be back to rebuilding from scratch again.

Thanks again.

I am already beginning to feel that I shouldn't use Masters, since every time I have to alter something I seem to have some great headache with it.
