Default Taking pictures out of text boxes

I created a document in Word 97 some years ago and had a problem to get pictures to stay where I wanted them, so put them in text boxes. I now want to take them out of the text boxes, in W2003, but can't delete the text boxes without also deleting the pictures. How do I do this?

Click in the text box, press Ctrl+A (to select the content), and then press Ctrl+X (to cut the picture). Paste in the main body of the document.

Thanks Stefan.

BTW, is there a facility for flipping images in W2003? A friend says she has done this by mistake and doesn't know how she did it and I can't see how to get them back! (apart from using other software).

I haven't used Word 2003 in a while, but you should look at the Drawing toolbar (after you select the picture) for Rotate options.

The flip facility does not seem to exist in this version, but thanks anyway. There are ways round it.

There should be some (sub-)option referring to Rotate and/or Flip at least...

Not that I can find!

Re my other query which was how to take an image out of a text box, I find I'm unable to cut just the image. This means that when I paste, the text box is pasted as well.

That suggests it isn't really a text box with a picture, but an picture with a border. Right-click the border and choose Format Picture. On the Colors and Lines tab, remove the border.

No, they aren't borders. They are text boxes. I've now tried again setting up a text box and inserting a picture into it, then trying to cut just the picture but it won't have it. The whole thing, text box and all, goes.

If you are allowed to share the document, I'd be happy to take a look. (Of course, you should remove any sensitive information.)

OK Stefan.
The real doc's pictures are far too big to send so I've set one up for you specially! It's attached.

A simple workaround here is to insert a paragraph break after the picture in the textbox, before selecting the picture. You can the select & cut the picture out of the textbox.

On the Picture Toolbar is a button for rotating images.

On the Drawing Toolbar, the Draw button opens a mini-menu with options for flipping and rotating.

That's great, Paul. Thanks. Stefan suggested there might be a flip feature but I was too blind to find it!

That's not what I said; I did say that there are some options for flipping and rotating even in Word 2003, and Paul pointed you to those options in a previous reply.
