Default editing a ToC

So … a colleague has sent me a .docx and a request to "mend" various things he's managed to break <g> I've managed most of what was needed, but can't find out how to see/edit the definition he's used for the ToC. Do I have to delete the ToC and start again, or is there some way of exposing the set-up details he's already used? The options "Remove" and "Update" don't really cut it here.

Thanks in advance.

You can use Alt-F9 to expose all the field codes in the document, including the TOC. That should be enough to see what it's meant to reference.

Using the Styles tools, you should also be able to see what formatting is applied to the different TOC Styles.

Got it – I was clicking in the wrong place and only seeing the field for a single ToC entry. Thanks.
