Can I encrypt a document in Word Starter 2010?
I've searched and found various solutions but none of them applied to my programme.

Just my guess but, because the "Starter" version is of limited-functionality, I would suspect that you could not encrypt with that program. Your search for a solution with no positive results is also a good indicator.

See: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/starter/ for a list of what's supported/not supported. Since you can't turn document protection on/off, I'd be surprised if encryption was supported. You can, of course, protect files with other apps (eg WinZip).
