I am using Word 2007 and have a problem in that suddenly, and with no pattern that I can detect, my ability to "drag and drop" stops working. This happens with no other Word functions open (Like "Find" or "Compare Documents"); just the single document is open.

Searching for solutions, I discovered one fix, which is to open "Run" in the Windows "Accessories" and type in regsvr32 /i shell32.dll This worked in the past, but now even that is not working without additionally opening Word's Options, deselecting "Allow drag and drop", closing Word, re-opening Word, and then re-selecting "Allow drag and drop". Any idea how I can solve this permanently? It's making me a bit crabby. Thanks. |

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Word Options|Resources|Diagnose)?

Also, goto Word Options>Advanced>Editing Options and make sure the 'Allow text to be dragged and dropped' option is checked.

			Thanks,

I ran the diagnostics and the report said one thing (no specification on what) was repaired. We'll see. Lots of report writing today...... |

UNCHECK the box, close the window, reopen the window, recheck the box and close. This works when I do it.

Plethora: This thread is 5 years old. I hardly imagine it's still an issue for the OP...

As for your process, that suggests you too might need to repair the Office installation.

I found this thread when encountering the same problem, but the solution was non-technical.

My issue: I didn't notice that the Advanced Find window was open on a different monitor and while it was open Drag and Drop would not work. |

Assuming that Options/Advanced checkbox for 'Allow text to be dragged and dropped' is on/checked, make sure a Find and Replace window is not open in background or on another monitor.

Closing an open F&R window on my extended monitor allowed the D&D to work. Who knew!!
