You can run an earlier version of Office with Office 2007, but you must install the earlier one first. In any event, the older doc format (which Word 2007 & later can use) doesn't have the same resolution limits.

That said, no-one needs an image with a 1600dpi resolution. At normal reading distances, few can discern better than 400dpi for high-contrast line art, or around 270dpi for colour photos and the like.

An alternative, if you're using a postscript printer, is to insert the images in eps format, which sends the embedded data direct to the printer without Word de-resolving it.

Another alternative, if your image suits, is to save it in a vector format and insert that into Word.
