Default what happened to my references???

Hello,

I have a paper I submitted for review and when I went back to make some modifications, it looks like my references have turned to some kind of hyperlink notation,

HYPERLINK \l "Naz14" 1

The reference number "1" is no longer connected to the reference tools as it was originally. My citation style still appears in the references pane. The bibliography still exists, but it also doesn't appear to be connected in any way to the reference tools. The bibliography just appears to be a word table. None of the right click reference functions are there.

What exactly happened here and how do I get it back?

This is office 10, version 14.0.4760.1000 if that matters.

Open the document and press Alt-F9 to toggle Word's field code display 'off'.

That toggles the page numbers between {PAGE } and an actual number. Nothing happens to the references.

In that case, whoever did the review corrupted all your links, etc. Do note that documents saved in anything other than the docx & docm formats do not support Word's citation & bibliography fields, whose contents will all be converted to text; hyperlink fields shouldn't be affected by the save format.
