Post Help Creating A Dynamic Footer

Hi Group!

I am looking for assistance with the design of my document footer. On each page of the document I have different headings (i.e. 2.1.1 XXXX, 2.1.2 YYYYY) I want to add text to the footer based on which headings are on the current page. Any ideas?

Thanks, Michael

Hi
Not sure what you VBA Macro skills are like but I would have thought you could write an If....Then....Else routine to check what the header is and then populate the footer based on the header.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tony,

Yes, I am comfortable with macros and figured I could go that route, although I was hoping for a quicker answer. I researched ms support and found that I could include fields such as heading number and text (as independent fields) to the footer, and then have separate footers for each section of the document, but not a way to IF..ELSE as you suggest.

I guess I will try creating a macro.

If you know an article that talks about searching a single page in the document for the headings listed on that specific page, and how to return the type of heading it is (i.e. "Heading 1", "Heading 2") I would appreciate that.

Thanx

Hi
I have had a quick search but cannot find anything suitable.
Suggest you post under Word VBA and maybe Paul Edstein (VBA and Word guru) will respond).
Good luck.
Tony
