Ms Word creates ..Document folder in Skydrive.
Hi, I am new to this forum, but not forums in general. Windows/Linux users since Windows 1.0, and Slackware since day 1. I have just a few simple questions: 1. Using Ms Office Home premium 2013 trial version and when running Ms Word it creates a folder called ..Documents in Skydrive, even though I have a Documents folder already. 2. Why the upload center? When I create a document, I prefer to save it straight to my documents folder in Skydrive folder on the hard drive, so it is already being uploaded/synced already. Actually all my files are stored in Skydrive folder, I no longer use the libraries, whats the point, you end up with duplicate folders and files. 3. Why isn't each module of office not available as an individual subscription. Basically I am a home user who only needs Ms Word, so in essence I would be paying $9.99 a month for Ms Word only. Given the new rapid update/upgrade process, it would not be prudent to purchase Ms word on dvd. Better to have it web based, and always current, and maybe cheaper, like $4.99 a month. Of course # 3 is wishful thinking. Henry |

Well, I can think of at least two pretty respectable cross-platform word-processors that read/write Word formats. You might find that stepping away from the Microsoft licensing model meets your needs better.

If you mean openoffice and libreoffice, they are not up to par for my needs. I need to share my documents with someone who proof reads for me and she uses Ms Word. I have been out of school a long time and my writting skils, well lets say english was not my best subject

Well, if you aren't happy using Word and find one of the main contenders inadequate … all I can do is wish you luck <g>
fwiw, I have regularly used LibreOffice –I carry no torch for it, mind – to open .doc and .docx files I have then edited with track changes and returned to the client; no problems noted. |

I have to agree. It is quite feasible to work in OpenOffice (or LibreOffice) and then (assuming one has Word as well) make a final version in Word if a third party requires it in Word. Heck I still use Word 2002 for real production work. It is set up to match my work flow and I see no valid reason for 2010, never mind 2013.
Mind you, I never use SkyDrive. |

Well anyway what about answers to my question about the creation of a folder named ..Documents why does Ms word 2013 create another documents folder with 2 dots in front of folder name? Why doesn't it use the documents folder I have.
