Default Removing a paragraph style from the TOC

My body text paragraphs started showing up in my TOC, and I can't find the new location for removing the style from the automatic TOC-generation process. Help?

Thanks

First and foremost, check and make sure you are not using any of the "Heading" styles for your body text. If you are, that may be your problem. If not, check what style you are using for the body text and once you know what style it is (1) go to the Reference ribbon and click on the "Table of Contents" drop-down menu; (2) Select "Options"; and (3) look for the style you are using and make sure there are NO "TOC Level" numbered.

Having said all of that, probably the easiest solution is to change your body text style for all you text to something more useful to your document (i.e., Body Text) and modify the parameters specific to your needs.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the response. First, I should have better used capitalization to indicate that I was refering to a specific paragraph style. There are no "Heading" styles within it. Also, changing it from one paragraph style to another didn't correct the problem. Secondly, I don't have a "Reference ribbon." I'm using Word 2007, and I can't find the "No TOC Level" option in this version of Word. (I currently use three versions of Word on two platforms, so the inconsistency between them is proving to be quite the goal-thwarter.)

Thanks again for trying to help.

"Check the outline level setting for the rogue style" is one approach; then – I think this is how a ToC can be set up in 2007 – check to see whether the ToC is being built up from specific styles or from outline levels. Good luck!
