Default Mac Word 2011 field help

I have a form that I want some drop downs to auto fill.

example, I have a drop down I bookmarked as 'region'

The choices are; region a; region b; region c; etc.

I have an area I want to auto fill depending upon which choice from above

eg; region a would equal Jane doe; region b would egual Judy Joe, etc.

I insert a reference field and include the bookmark Region

My formula comes out like this: {REF REgion=Region A Jane Doe} But when I click the drop down for Region A, the field shows Region A not Jane doe.

Of course I want it to be an if eventually. eg; if Region a = Jane Doe; if Rebion b = Judy Doe; etc.

I am totally lost and clueless
