Default Numbering issues in Word

I have multiple documents that I want to paste in the same logical file, but each document has it's own numbering. Since they are completely independent documents (e.g. reference material), we won't want the numbering to interact. However, even those each of my documents are set to restart numbering, when I past one document at the end of a document it renumbers itself to pick up from where the previous document left off. Then when I look at the 2nd document, the "Restart Numbering" changed itself to "Continue Numbering". How can I keep that from happening? There must be some way I can isolate these documents from each other.

Hi Rick
Have a look at the Master and Sub Documents function to see if that resolves your issue.
Good luck.

I can't really understand what your problem is from the description. Open a new logical document, add the first document, add a section break at the end the logical document you created. Add the next document, add another section break at the end the new logical document you have. Continue with the same steps until you have all documents in the logical document, all separated by section breaks. Now with the section breaks are in place, the numbering you have created should be able to be set to begin counting from 1 to the last one inside each section. (The numbering must not be set to continuous.) If you look on the menu bar at the bottom of the word window you should see the section numbers and page numbers. (The bottom menu bar must be activated.) As you do not state what your numbering numbers (perhaps tables, figures etc.), I cannot be more specific.
