Default Changing A Style ?

How exactly do I change the parameters of a style
'to use a 0.75-point expanded character spacing and center alignment' ?

I know that in Home > Styles, a click on the arrow gives a window
with all the styles in the current document. At the bottom there are

three icons, the rightmost of which is 'Manage Styles'.
A click on that, and its tab 'Set Defaults', does indeed show 'Alignment'
with 'Centered' in the drop-down menu.
But where do I specify a "0.75-point expanded character spacing" ?

Thanks.

Perhaps the simplest way is to apply your desired style to a paragraph, modify the character spacing, then right-click and choose Styles > Update 'Style' to match selection.

The funny thing is that although that answer is not 'positive', the very fact that you could 'only' make suggestions, is proof, as far as I am concerned, that the question was meaningless in the first place. Certainly I did as you suggested, but I could only find point/pt ( but no sign of 'expanded character'). Thanks.

Perhaps if you extended your search with Paul's instructions you would find the "expanded character" spacing in the Advanced tab of the Font menu (right-click on the selected 'style' / Modify / Format / Font / Advanced Tab / Character Spacing / Spacing / Expanded).

I certainly did not understand your rambling comments..... but, that is a story for another day...

Thanks for that. It seems to be what was expected.
This second answer was far more Dummies' Guide than the first was.
I am surprised to be accused of rambling, as the post in question was only 3 three lines long.
Better shut up for fear of repetition. But thanks again.

I didn't take the question as being meaningless, but only that you didn't understand how to update a Style to reflect something you apparently knew how to do otherwise. Accordingly, I focussed on the aspect of updating a Style in the simplest way possible. There are certainly more advanced/involved ways of updating a Style - if you want to go down that path.

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I had two related problems:
my original problem itself AND how I explained it to anybody else.
What I SHOULD have said was how far I got.
Yes, I did get to 'Modify' and even did click on the 'Modify Style' window's 'Format' dropdown/up menu.
But THERE's the problem : 9 different options.

• Font
• Paragraphs
• Tabs
• Border
• Language
• Frame
• Numbering
• Shortcut key
• Text Effects

Even if some of those are of more obvious relevance than others,
I hope you can see how that menu can be confusing and even intimidating.
And knowing now that the answer is 'Font/Advanced' does not make me forget
how UNobvious that was till recently.
