Hello helpful people!!
I’m using word 2002, microsoft office 10 and the question of the day is this: why does word keep asking me to save a document that has not been edited? Very often (almost every time) when I open a document just to view it, even for 2 seconds, when I try to close the document I am prompted “do you want to save the changes to….” and no changes or editing has taken place. This is just annoying and I’d like it to stop… any help much appreciated!

Hi Kenny,

Quite possibly because there are fields in the document that automatically update each time the document is opened (eg a DATE field).

Thank you very much for your suggestion, however that does not seem to be the issue. Any other ideas?

Hello again - attached is an example of a document that prompts me to save every time I open it, I have the date here but it is not a field that is automatically updating.

I opened you attached document but didn't get a 'save' prompt when closing it unchanged. Accordingly, there is nothing about that document, in particular, that appears related to the problem.
