Default Too large a file size

I had no idea that Word could not open a file larger than 32 megs. I have a file (which is encrypted) and I want to open it so I mount it and try to open it and get the message that Word can't because it's greater than 32 megs. But this has been no problem before. What's going on, do you think?

Word 2003 does not have a 32Mb file size limit. The 32Mb limit applies to the amount of text in the document. 32Mb of unformatted text would span about 8,000 pages - before taking account of graphics, etc. Is your document really that large?

The size of the encrypted virtual disk is, it seems, just under 1 gig. I've not had this problem before and have been using Paragon Encrypted Disk for years. I'm sure the text within the 'disk' is a heck of a lot less. It's just that the error message is a Word message.

In all likelihood, then, the Word message reflects some corruption of the document. You could try opening the file with the 'Open and Repair' function (available via File|Open> select file, then clicking on the 'open' dropdown. If that doesn't work and you have a backup (which you should have), you may need to restore that. Alternatively, you can try recovering the text content using Word's 'Recover text from any file' option (available via File|Open> Files of type).

OK. I've tried all those. Still won't work. I just get the same message, even with my backed-up version. Fortunately I have a paper copy of the file so I'll just scan it in and start from scratch with a smaller encypted disc. I've never had this problem before, but I don't access this file very often. Thanks for you help here, Paul.
