Add-ins Toolbar
Hi everyone,
I am currently using Word 2007 and have macros (specifically buttons that run them) on the add-ins toolbar/ribbon back from Word 2003. I am wondering what would happen should I upgrade my office product in the future to say..Office 2015 or something of the like. Would I still be able to transfer my toolbar and buttons? Thank you, Matthew |

Hi Matthew,
Getting a bit ahead with the Office 2015 reference - we have no idea how that will work. Quite apart from toolbar issues, migrating to Office 2007 & later can break some existing code. Application.Filesearch, for example, is no longer supported. Andreas Killer has made a replacement class module you can download from: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35239054/FileSearch.cls For a discussion of how to use the class module, see: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-customize/dir-vs-filesearch/9021a162-7ec5-4c16-bff8-84f28300dba4 As for the interface, All we've got to work with now, in terms of changes from Office 2003 & earlier, are Office 2007-2013. Office 2007 provided little support for user-customization of the Ribbon. Office 2010 is better. For the basics of Ribbon customization, see: http://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/...bbon_main.html

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your response. When I moved from Word 2003 to 2007 I made sure all the code was updated (e.g. Changed UserAccounts.Dialog to Application.FileDialog(3)). I'm just wondering what would happen now if I moved to Word 2010 or beyond. I believe it is possible to make your own toolbar in Word 2010 so I don't think that would be a problem in terms of 'moving' the buttons (note I don't like using the QAT for these particular macros). Do you think the code will need updating again? I heard vb as a language is no longer being updated, only maintained. I'm assuming this could mean code won't break anymore unless MS Office switches macro languages. Thanks |

It is impossible to predict what might happen when changing platforms. Usually, but not always (as with Application.Filesearch, for example), MS provides backwards compatability.
I don't know where you heard "vb as a language is no longer being updated". In any event, Office apps use vba, which is being updated with new functions for each Office update.
