Cut and paste with widow orphan control
I have a list of names and address (over 1200) in a simple text file. I would like to simply cut-and-paste them into a formatted word doc with automatic control over widow/orphan for each listing. Is there a code I can insert that will turn on widow/orphan control between entries?

Control
What you may be looking for is a Paste Special feature, Paste Unformatted. When copied text is pasted ths way, it inherits the properties of the Style of the receiving paragraph (which may be a "blank" paragraph, just the paragraph mark. If that is set with widow and orphan control, you copy will inherit it.
If you're not familiar with Styles, you may need to look them up. In essence, everything in Word has a Style, which is a group of properties -- characteristics -- such as font, size, spacing, etc. Orphan and widow control are among these. Paste special is available on Home tab when you press the Paste button down arrow. Hope this helps. Ulodesk |

Given that it's a text file (ie no formatting), a simple Paste has the same results as Paste Special.
That, however, really doesn't address the issue, which is that each line from a plain text file is likely to be a separate physical paragraph. Assuming there's an empty line between each set of records, the following wildcard Find/Replace will join each record's lines into a single paragraph: Find = ([!^13^11])[^13^11]([!^13^11]) Replace = \1^l\2 You can then use Ctrl-A to select the entire document and format the paragraphs with the 'keep together' attribute. That will eliminate any splitting across page boundaries.
