Dear MSOffice Forums,

This is my first post, so hello! Been here before, but usually I can search and find what I need, however I'm a bit stuck and can't seem to find help...

I am referencing a document at the moment and have selected IEEE, but m tutor would like names to appear as "surnames, firstnames" at the moment its "first initial, surname". I have tried downloading another stye from a post in there, but it wont show up :S, any other ideas? I'm using office pro 2013 and windows 8.
Screenshot attached.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

DK

But then it wouldn't be IEEE referencing, would it? Still, if that's what's required, the workaround is to edit the references by swapping the given name/surname data. You'll need to do this for each work cited, via References|Manage Sources.

Not the least welcoming message I've received before, but sarcasm aside, I didnt say I needed IEEE, just that's what I currently have selected.

I would like to use all other elements from IEEE but in references have "surnames, firstnames". Is there a way to edit and insert the reference style so it does this automatically?

I wasn't meaning to offend, merely to point out that you're asking for a non-compliant format under the IEEE guise. Since it seems you don't need the IEEE format, which wasn't apparent from your first post, why not choose one that does have the required order, for example APA, Chicago, MLA or Turabian?

As indicated in my previous post, you can only achieve your aim with the IEEE format by editing the citation references. On reflection, simply swapping the surnames & given names may not be sufficient. Instead, you'd need to input both the surnames and initials as the surname, omitting the given names entirely.

If you're wedded to the IEEE format, you could try editing the IEEE xml file Word uses, but the edits would only affect your system. Anyone you send the document to would only see the standard format. And you'd need to be thoroughly conversant with xml editing. An alternative approach might be to create your own version using the tools at: http://bibword.codeplex.com/. Again, I suspect the style would only apply to your system.

Hi Macropod,

I was just being a stuffy english fart, no worries!
The reason I liked the IEEE was due to the [numbering] system is uses in the text, word doesnt seem to contain any other numbering systems so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Thank you for taking the time to explain, I will have to pass this explanation onto my instructor.

Thanks very much for your help.
