Default Highlighting from Restricted Editing

I have a Mutual Confidentiality Agreement created in Word. I’ve used the Editing Restrictions to lock 99% of the document allowing colleagues to change dates, addresses and names and personalise it for use with our customers. The areas that are allowed to be changed are highlighted with a yellow tint and square brackets which Word appears to do automatically. How do get rid of these once the document has been completed and is ready to send to a customer, without me giving the Password to my colleagues who will then turn off the protection, thus giving them access to amend the rest of the document? We don’t want to send the document to our customers with the amended areas still highlighted. Any help would be gratefully received.

When the document is protected and the Restrict Editing and Formatting pane if visible, do you not see a checkbox "Highlight the regions I can edit?"

Uncheck it.

I do exactly that and then Save the document. However, if I open the document again, or I send it to a customer, when they open it those areas are still highlighted with brackets. The only way it seems you can get rid of this is to Stop Protecting the document, which means I have to give out the Password to my colleagues which means they can accidentally amend the document because there is no longer any protection. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong!

No, you are not doing anything wrong. It seems that feature only applies to the current instance of the document. You are correct, if you close and reopen the document the hightlighting is restored.

All I can suggest, and hopefully it is something you will be able to employ, is a VBA procedure to execute automatically whenever the document is opened:

HTML Code:
Sub AutoOpen()
ActiveDocument.Windows(1).View.ShadeEditableRanges = False
End Sub
