Import - not Cut+Paste??
Have you tried Importing, instead of Cutting+Pasting?
Insert > Object > Create From File (tab) > Browse to Spreadsheet containing Chart (here you can choose to link to file - that way the chart will change if the Excel spreadsheet changes) > OK I don't have a copy of 2000 at hand to play with, but I think it still had the capability to do this, have a go and let me know how you get on! |

If you followed an advice and solved your problem, it's a solution.

If you just want a static vector picture of the chart -- as opposed to a linked chart that updates when the underlying Excel data changes -- embedded in your Wprd doc, copy the chart in Excel, then switch to Word and use Edit | Paste Special | Enhanced Metafile (EMF) or Windows Metafile (WMF). Then just resize and format the vector image as you wish. I use this for a lot of static Excel charts that are inserted into my documents.
