Default Spell check not always working

Hi

Sometimes, especially if I have pasted text from another document or from a website, spell check stops working, as does autocorrect. I have several documents where part of it is spell checked & part of it isn't. This is incredibly annoying!
Any ideas?

Check which language formatting is applied to the pasted text.

Hi
I always use "keep text only" when pasting text. I have selected all text in document, checked language on toolbar & also in Options. Both set to English (UK).
Even if I deliberately type something incorrectly, it is not showing as wrong - eg beforre
I have just tried copying entire document & pasting to new doc with "keep text only" & at that point, spell check is correct, but I have now lost all my formatting & as it will take some time to re-do entire document, I am not sure that I am ahead. I tried pasting to new doc with "keep source formatting" but I had the same problem with no spell check

Make sure that "Detect language automatically" is cleared in Review tab | Language | Set Proofing Language.

For more on language formatting, take a look at http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/MasterSpellCheck.htm.

Try clicking on a misspelled word and pressing Shift+F1. You should see something like this:

Under Font formatting does it say : Language: Do not check spelling or grammar? That indicates that the language setting for that word is set to not check. Click on the screenshot to go to Suzanne Barnhill's article on this.

The screenshot above is from a computer with only one language installed, with spelling and grammar installed and active. This is a character(font)-level formatting in Word.
